While I’ve enjoyed being a Robo Mom to one for the last year and half, we are very excited to be welcoming #2 to the Robo Fam this winter!
When we found out we were expecting our first child, my husband was in the same room, so I didn’t get to do the fun announcement thing. This time around, things were a little different and I got to use my daughter as a way of telling her daddy the big news.
After a couple positive tests and knowing I can’t keep a secret, I had to act quick. We ran to the store, picked out a cute, plain outfit, and I whipped up a Big Sister shirt. Robo Dad was definitely excited when he walked in the room.
After a couple weeks of hiding the secret and confirming everything with our doctor, we had the opportunity to share the big news with our parents. Our first baby announcement was on Father’s Day, so it was a treat for the grandmas to find out about Robo Baby #2 on Mother’s Day!
A few more weeks passed and we were ready to share our news with the world. We decided to use our 4th of July trip to Michigan and Canada as a way to do so. I kept brainstorming “traveling as a family of four” ideas with suitcases and passports, but kept drawing a blank. After a few days, we decided to do a timelapse video of our trip with the announcement at the end. With our handy phone tripod in tote, we filmed everything from airport security, takeoffs and landings, and car rides to our White Castle Crave Case and trip through customs. Instead of describing it, I’ll just let you see for yourself:
With the exception of a toddler who refused to sleep and a couple airport snafus, it was an excellent trip. We were VERY excited to get home though because the following day, we were able to find out the gender of the baby.
We kept it to ourselves for a couple days so we could enjoy the news privately, discuss names, and just soak it all in. When the end of the week rolled around, we met up with both our families and a few friends at a local restaurant to share the news.
We went with the not-so-unique filled cupcakes as a way to announce, but we let our daughter be the one to bust it open.
It’s a BOY! We can’t wait to meet Declan Matthew this winter. Even though she got a little upset during the announcement, Ellie is going to be a great big sister. The Robo Babies are set to be about 23 months apart and we are so, so excited to watch them grow up together.
